My Venice Barbell Club success story has a few different phases. The initial phase started in the beginning of 2014. I had just turned 29 years old & had let myself go in my late 20’s. My whole life I had been athletic & lean but it seemed like all of a sudden I woke up one day weighing 240 pounds and living a very unhealthy lifestyle. I hated who I had become and was determined to make a change. In January of 2014 I joined Paradiso Crossfit. I was religiously attending personal training sessions there 3 days a week for 6 months before transitioning into group classes. In about 9 months time I had lost 60 pounds and my life had transformed with the help of great coaches and people from the amazing Paradiso CrossFit community.
Then came the second phase. I became infatuated with CrossFit. Three days a week slowly turned into 5 or 6 days a week of group class. My favorite part of CrossFit was hands down Olympic weightlifting. I started to attend Venice Barbell Club to improve my lifts but still mostly was going to CrossFit class. I was happy to loose all the weight and get into good shape but I wanted more. I wanted to be stronger and move some respectable weight. I wanted to snatch my body weight and squat over 300lbs with no problem.
This led me into phase three! In January of 2016 I committed to getting stronger and becoming a better lifter. I made Venice Barbell Club my main focus and the rest is history! I was setting personal records almost weekly and body weight snatch and 300 pound squat became an everyday occurrence. My squat numbers went up by 75 pounds and I was stronger than ever. I went from weighing 180 pounds to 195 pounds. My passion for the sport of weightlifting and my own journey led me to become USAW certified and I started to work and coach at Venice Barbell Club when we opened our new 712 Lincoln Blvd. location. There is a saying that if you do something you love, you won’t ever work a day in your life. I can say I’m truly blessed to have found that in coaching and working at Venice Barbell Club. I am forever grateful and thankful for the impact that CrossFit and weightlifting has had on my life. Now being able to coach others and be a part of their fitness journeys is incredibly fun and rewarding.
It all starts with believing you can be someone that you want to be and going for it full steam ahead. These pictures of my physical transformation don’t show the mental & emotional transformation which are equally important. Hopefully Weightlifting and Venice Barbell Club can be a catalyst for change in your life as it has been in mine.
